I'd go with the 1994, particularly if you are new to Saabs. More modern fuel injection system, better transmission (if manual. A 1994 has anti-lock brakes and that is nice from a safety standpoint, as long as they work. It is getting harder and harder to find parts to keep these operational (the pressure accumulator is very difficult to get or not available). Also the 1994 has an airbag, but the reliability of a 30 year old airbag is a question mark.
Go for a manual transmission that shifts smoothly. The auto matics tend to fail at 135-150,000 miles. Manuals also have a finite lifespan, but you can tell more about their impending failure. Do not buy a manual where you can hear a whining from the transmission - that indicates the pinion gear is on its way out. A rebuilt transmission is 1500-2000 just for the transmission (if you put it in).
Shop around, you may want to pay a bit more for one in really good shape. There are a lot of cars with ~100,000 miles on them for sale at about $4,000 -5,000 lately. It's a "you can pay me now or you can pay me later"
equation with a 30 year old car.
