It's always the simple things that add up in the 27 things that are simultaneously wrong with cars that even have new parts. At least suspected of being new, in bags that are new, and part number labels that are new, and prices for them that are new.......
After weeks of chasing down the lack of power when going throttle down with a 2.1 turbo conversion, and not getting anything better as a result, in fact it seemed like what should have been improving the performance was making it worse.
The fuel system parts I replaced seemed endless until I decided to pull the white elbow check valve on the top of the pump, I had replaced it along with a new pump insert and the FPR, filter, you name it.....once the elbow was replaced with a Genuine Saab ( still looks like pro parts though ) the fuel pressure gauge started to show what I'm used to seeing.
So, the elbow check valve was instead acting like a bi directional check valve and not allowing pressure to build when manifold vacuum was higher. Good lord, I lost track of the hours I flogged on this thing to get it to quit stalling under acceleration.
Now, it runs scared, and I mean it is spirited......can't wait to get the 8 psi dawes device on the turbo to do some WOT pulls and find out what I can break next.
