I'll not argue with the pro parts branding to the genuine saab lookalike problem. Having said that, is it possible that the subcontractors just make the parts delivered to pro parts and at the same time deliver to the other "OE" brand. In other words a Y shaped supply chain.
I the aircraft bearing business, they used that Y shaped supply line and the only difference in quality was the part marking / packaging / and some sort of phantom reference to enhanced quality assurance. Rubbish. All it is from the perspective of supply is a way to justify a more expensive price point for an identical part.
One difference I can see in the fuel pumps themselves is made in Poland vs Made in Taiwan. It's possible the injection moldings are made in the same place, the tooling must be expensive as hell. Then, the assembly in Poland instead of Taiwan.
Righto on the lack of need for a check valve. I thought about rigging up a switch to energize pressure, start the engine, then bypass switch it.
That isn't dumb since the starter rebuilds are beginning to turn into the same fiasco, I'm trying to transition to a better supplier than Bosch, but so far, no supplier has come up. In other words, keeping pump pressure in the rail isn't a dumb idea since the starters are getting less and less what I would call optimum in regards to rebuilt.
