Yeah, who knows what the supply chain looks like... I'm just annoyed that 3x$ Genuine Saab and 1x$ ProParts are the same part. I pay the extra for a superior part, not to make me feel good. If Orio wants to rebrand low-end parts, they need to sell them at low-end prices. Otherwise, they're going to devalue their brand when people like me decide they might as well save the money if they're getting the same part anyway. I totally get the economies of this ultra-specialized market, but frustrated consumers are never good for business.
A company called Revolution Electronics makes a small fuel pump controller that performs the prime function like every other car except c900s. I have one on my Falcon and am happy with it. I keep thinking about installing one on a c900. You can also get the same functionality from a certain Bosch/Volvo fuel pump relay at about 1/3rd the price. I'm sure there are other ways to make a cheap timer relay that just closes contact for 3-5 seconds, maybe run it off "S" off the ignition switch so the pump primes when you first put the key in. VW had a neat solution where the timer runs when you open the driver's door, so the system is primed by the time the key hits the ignition.
Back in the day running without the check valve wasn't so scary, but you're right, between the quality of rebuilt starters and the weaksauce aftermarket battery business you gotta save them amps!
