Thanks for the walkthrough. I began working on a separate issue where my tach isn't functioning (it bounces sometimes when I turn off the ignition but doesn't register RPM) and I read in an old post that someone resolved their tach problem by checking the turn signal fuse. Mine was blown, so I replaced the fuse and low and behold, the charging circuit functions properly again (not the tach, however).
Let the car run for over an hour with the lights, radio, and heat on and the voltage stayed between 12.5 and 13.5 volts the whole time.
I'll have to address the tach another time but it worked before the new harness went in...
