Re: To-Do list: Difficulty finding fifth gear; loss of reverse - Saabnet.com Bulletin Board
Thank you everyone for your contributions so far.
A-ha! I did not know that the pinch bolt could be accessed via the driver side axle. I've been lying beneath the car and trying to work around the steering rack. I've tried twice that way w out success.
I'll come in from the side this eve. Thank you for calling out that detail.
I'll also check the rubber bushing(s?). Can someone offer info on where to look?
I'll also recheck the lockout pin length.
Lastly, I spoke to the PO again last night. He's glad to see the car back on the road. He said it always shifted perfectly w no issues for him. I agree about possible pinion bearing damage, but I'm hoping the PO's repeated testimony about the car's past solid tranny means this is not the bearing.
Hoping for success this eve.
