If the radio has gone into lockout mode it will say "code" on the display, you then have to enter the code using the numbered station preset buttons. If you punch in the wrong code, you have to hold the "BAND" button for a few seconds till "code" reappears to give it another go.
If you are lucky, the radio unlock code will be on a little card in the owners packet. If not, the next "get lucky" scenario is to pull the radio from the dash and look to see if someone wrote the 4-digit code on the radio itself. You need the radio removal tools to get the radio out. They look like big "U"s. There are a pair of them. You insert them in the 4 holes on either side of the radio face. If you don't have them, 4 8-penny nails pushed in the holes will work.
