I think rebuilding calipers on my own is probably going to be the best solution. As much as I would like to go with the later style 900 brakes, it's hard to give up the older wheels, of which I have many sets. I've been buying rebuilt calipers, and on one car in particular I've been having problems with the front brakes seizing up. At the moment, the right front has a weeping seal and the left front is stuck. It's maddening.
Thanks for the pep talk about welding and filing the yokes. I think I've known for a while that I need to deal with this on my own. Clearly, no one is riding to the rescue of the handful of people who still own cars with these old brake systems. I might give the Toyota calipers a try, just for grins, and I'll post my findings here whether it's a triumph or a fiasco.(The tutorial is very helpful, BTW. Thanks for putting it out there.)
