Having a similar problem with my '89 SPG Posted by RS [Email] (#15) [Profile/Gallery] (more from RS) on Sun, 20 May 2018 09:40:47 In Reply to: Tach Problems, Jawerdna [Profile/Gallery] , Sun, 20 May 2018 08:59:37 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Tach is intermittent (that's the nice word.)
I suspect that, on mine, it's one of 2 things. Yours may be similar
1. There's a loose connection from the foil on the back of the instrument cluster, maybe a connection on a screw that needs tightening.
2. There's a cold solder joint somewhere in the tach.
#1 is the stronger suspicion because I popped out the speaker and pushed on screws and foil on the back of the tach. It worked for a while. The tach also works when the car goes over the right kind of bump when it's being driven.
Won't know for sure until the dash is apart.
