If it was just the right side, it would likely be a plugged A/C drain.
At this point you best options for for diagnosing the problem are:
- Pull the front carpet and carpet pads to dry out the area and follow the trail of rust and lifted soundproofing to see where water intrusion originates.
- Get underneath, using the requisite safety procedures and precautions, and look for rust holes.
On my '89 SPG, the rubber gasket porthole for RHD steering had deteriorated. Water came in around that gasket Enough water came in over a long period of time to cause some serious floor rust. Lucky it was caught when it was.
Water can also get around the rubber gasket that surrounds the A/C condensor/air inlet unit.
On mine, another sneaky way for water ingress was caused by crud buildup where the windshield gasket meets the roof drainage rails. I have to clean that out periodically using a nylon wire tie.
Other 900s I've seen have rust holes in the floor that let water splash in and soak the carpet padding.
The rubber shift rod bushing tends to deteriorate and let water in.
So, all of this boils down to there being lots of hidden ways that water can get in, usually diagnosis is straightforward. but it sounds like you have one of those hard cases that the carpets need to be pulled up for more in-depth investigation.
