The hard-starting makes me think there's a big air leak and that you should check all of your intake ducting - there may be a rip or tear that's not visible. But if you go through the entire intake system and remove piece by piece, maybe a problem will become apparent.
I only say this because a little of what you're describing matches a period for me from a couple of weeks ago when my 87 tbo was extremely hard to start and would not idle correctly without a lot of footwork on the gas pedal while the car was warming up. I only investigated with my hands after a couple of weeks of accommodating the problem rather than confronting it.
But I'm just shooting from the hip here, I can think of some other areas that might come after an air leak is ruled out.
