The sending unit on the "900" pump I think is really for the 9000 and won't fit into the tank. The pump body is basically the same and you can remove the sending unit from the pump to accommodate the 900 tank floor.
Unless they changed the pump structure, and I doubt if they did.
What I described above is what I did to a 900 tank mounting -- removed the sending unit "arm" and modified the wiring to fit the connector on the top of the pump. Perhaps that is what is meant by "bypass" the sending unit.
