Aaron,
Thank you for your post at TSN!
Reducing the rotating mass of the B202 engine rotating components may bring some performance, but this will typically require much more to a 2 lb. reduction. The larger clutch would typically be nearly 1 lb. additional weight, making a reduction in mass more helpful. We have found most benefit would be achieved after 8+ lb reduction in flywheel/clutch mass, but this would typically be improbable when retaining a OEM SAAB flywheel. Most benefit of the lightened flywheel would be achieved via the removal of weight at the outside diameter of the rotating mass. Many lightened OEM flywheels will also have mass removed from the friction area which may be more prone to warping, especially when in service with a performance clutch.
For most racing applications, we find more benefit from use of the 215MM performance clutch as the rotating mass will be reduced as compared to 228MM, especially when being integrated with an aluminum flywheel.
Thanks again for your post, and please let us know if there are any additional questions.
Sincerely,
Gary K. at SDI
