Sealing strip under sill plate? Posted by OldLinePaul [Email] (#2290) [Profile/Gallery] (more from OldLinePaul) on Tue, 1 Jan 2019 15:30:58 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Is there supposed to be a seal running under the length of the sill plate?
On my car, the door frame seals - the seals on the car, not the door - terminate after about a three inch run on the front and rear of both door apertures. I've run a few searches here and read conflicting information, as well as that folks sometimes cut lengths of the seal under the sill plate to use in other places on the car.
I've had a bear of a time tracing a leak on the driver's (left hand) side of my three-door. It appears that water is wicking through the carpet under the sill plate to such an extent that it's saturating the carpet and foam pad in the footwell. The carpet is wettest at the point where the door aperture seal ends. I wonder if I'm barking up the wrong tree with this sill plate seal notion. I also discovered today that the rear drain on the door was clogged, and I cleared it out. More rain in the forecast, so we'll see.
Thanks for any advice!
