Valve Guide Seals or Turbo Leak? Posted by Saabina [Email] (#33) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Saabina) on Mon, 21 Jan 2019 14:07:24 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Well maintained '93 900 Turbo, 212k total miles. Occasional brief puff of blue smoke while idling at a stop or on hot start after sitting for ±5-7 min. No smoke at cold start or accelerating. Turbo replaced with a good used Mitsu 1-2 years ago. Runs very strong and boosts into red with no noticable turbo noise. Turbo piping to intake manifold is mostly dry and oil-free. Spark plugs are all equally clean. I'm suspecting the turbo is leaking oil into the exhaust side when hot, either at idle or shut off. Anyone got a clever way to diagnose this before I pull the exhaust elbow off after a hot run? Or, leaking valve guide seals? Thanks in advance...
