So, today, I flew to Arkansas with money to purchase the cherry red 900 from the classifieds in Arkansas. Needs a new top, which he detailed. I test drove it for 15 minutes. This is my 8th Saab and my 3rd Classic 90. My brother had an 8v Auto, and that’s what got me hooked on the brand. Can you imagine? It wouldn’t fall out of a tree. So slow. Anyway, I loved the car. So here we are are, I’m posting from Birmingham. I drove from noon til 9. 500 miles. The first 200 miles were SKETCHY. Huge clunk putting it in gear. Sputtering sometimes on hills. Plenty of power when you get on it, but holding cruise at 70 it was getting in the upper range of the green, and would “miss”. I stopped and got two cans of sea foam. Put them both in on 1/2 a tank. Fast forward 100 miles, the car is smooth as can be. Tranny still will need attention at some point, but I want to say this- to everyone that hates the auto, get over it. It’s a nice tranny for 89. Once it’s in, it GLH (Shelby for goes like hell). Thanks for all posts over the years, you’ve been awesome for me on all my models, (900,9-3,95,9-7,and last 9-5), but give the auto a break. It’s actually nice. As long as you don’t want to peel out.
