I'd lean towards leaving it be until you need to get in there and address a clear problem.
I just did a repair on one of my two c900s in the past four weeks. My 92 gas gauge suddenly failed after a fillup. I pulled the sender unit connection, did some quick test with grounding two of the three wires and confirmed that the unit had failed.
Had to fashion a tool to spin the screw collar off (the inspiration started with a post here on Saabnet). Pulled the sender out of the tank and after staring at it for about an hour, realized there was a clear break in one leads going up to the wire connections. Soldered it back together and magic! The unit was functional again. I reinforced the aluminum cylinder attachment with some brass screws (again, recommended from a post here on Saabnet).
If you're feeling adventurous and have some time, sure: pull the unit and see what you can see. But if it's currently working...I'd just leave it.
