I can imagine a number of reasons and different geometry due to using different valves, lifters, springs, cams, seals or some small difference in the head casting comes to mind or maybe they just decided that the valve didn't require that much support given that it increases friction. All the engines I work on are B202's (one track mind) or I'd start measuring valve stem lengths and cam spec's and such. The important thing is just to be sure that after installation the new guides are cut to the correct height. Old school machinists know the formulas for determining guide height based on the moving parts geometry.
