Crimping vs. soldering is probably a religious argument. The advantage of crimping is that there is no thermal stress on the wires, and you don't get the brittleness that comes with adding solder. The advantage of soldering is that you don't get air gaps between the wires and the body of the terminal, where arcing and carbon buildup can result or moisture and corrosion can accumulate. You can largely eliminate the latter with adhesive lined heat shrink, which is also good mechanical reinforcement.

The crimpers I use are also made by Quick Cable - I don't remember the model number specifically but it's the Hex Crimp line and it's a handheld ratcheting crimper. Those are the two big options - beyond them, your choice is cable range. IIRC it was about $250.

It's designed to work with Quick Cables terminals and that's fine by me, they are quality parts and I'm happy to use them. Remy carries all the Quick Cable terminals so they're my go to - and it's nice dealing with a family-owned business.

IIRC the hex-shaped crimped meets mil-spec for cable connections but the point of it is to minimize air gap and provide a solid physical connection.

I'm not sure the cost of it is justified for one set of battery cables, but I've made a LOT of them. I converted my '67 Fleetwood to a dual battery system. Converted my '62 Falcon to a modern battery and alternator. Moved the battery to the trunk of my SPG. Converted my Fiero from a side post to a top-post battery and a modern alternator. Redid the entire battery system on my motorhome. It's easily paid for itself at this point.

The only real limitation I've found with the Quick Cable "ecosystem" is they do not have side-post terminals. Aftermarket side post terminals are tough to find anyway so whatever. Still, I wish they had support for that format.
