Maybe just me, but I'm not cutting wires. You're a little vague on what you're doing in the original post. Are you trying to remove a gate off your good car, to be replaced with a used gate at some point? If that's your situation: disconnect your battery. Turn the upholstery screws a half turn on the rear upholstery on the gate. Remove upholstery. Take a picture where the wires connect to the lights in your gate w/ your cell phone. Disconnect wires and feed them up through gate sides as you're gently pulling the wires out of the gate at the top. Go easy, You don't want to chaffe the wires. It'll take a little patience. Nothing you can't deal with. Grab a friend and a 10"" socket or wratchet wrench. (don't remember which fits best) break the two 10mm's loose on each hinge, each side. Remove one of them per side. Have friend stand at rear of gate to support. Use pick tool to pop spring release clips on hydraulic struts. lower them into jamb, while supporting gate. Friend supporting gate now moves to driver's side, you to pass. side, supporting gate the whole time. Take out last 10mm on your side, friend does same. Take off gate and set to the side. Re-install is reverse. Easy-peasy! :) If you have paint concerns, (scratching, etc.) : Before you begin, place three layers of making tape on trailing edge of roof and leading edge of gate to avoid any bumping of paint as you remove gate from car. 40 years as an autobody tech. This is how I do it...
