1979-1993 & 94 Conv [Subscribe to Daily Digest] |
In case it helps anyone else or some one has better advice ...
Changing the fuel pump in a 1993 900T Conv. The Eeuro pump does fit but has a fuel level float. I am assuming for another car as it the sender is separate on this car.
Feed and return lines came off ok. Pulled them vertically and carefully. The tool made it easy to get the locking ring off and the old pump was easy to get out. The advice to shop vac around the locking ring was really good.
Now the bad ...
Even with the tool, it is really hard to get the pump not to rotate with the lock ring and get to 40 ft pounds.
The really bad is that the black return line fitting broke when I was pushing it back into the pump. 25 year old plastic! This is a no longer avail part. The white feed line part is still avail though.
Turns out they are actually the same basic injection mold. The (white) feed elbow has one way pressure valve with a spring and a neoprene valve to keep the fuel system under pressure. Glued in insert.
The return (black) valve has a simple plastic one way valve that pushes in to the fitting which is NLA.
With care and a 27/64 drill you can remove the check valve from the feed line white part and fit the return valve non exit valve. I think this is just to prevent fuel venting in an overturn accident though.
No the hard part ... how to push the new (now white) check valve onto the ancient plastic return line. Cmyles seems to have some ideas for that!
Hopefully that works. Any ideas on that welcomed!
