Clicking from the passenger side......I'm thinking lifter noise. I recall when I was driving without the hood on, there was injector "ticking" but I can't imagine that it would be loud enough to be heard over other engine noise, especially the way I drive.
Regarding the idle issue, I'd start your quest with fuel pressure, and make sure you have the right base pressure at idle. Check for wet plugs, if they show fuel, then it's ignition. Or, a ruptured FPR == look at the vacuum line from the FPR and see if going into the manifold it is full of fuel that is being sucked past a breached diaphragm. In other words, your problem could be a bunch of things, and probably more than one. I use 27. There are always at least that many things not perfect with these beasts.
