If the soldering repair looks sketchy, you can replace the part. Apparently the pickup coil piece is same as those on 1991-96 Hyundai S Coupe 1.5 i turbos.

search for distributor pulse sensor
And then look on any other US supplier for the Hyundai equivalent. I found some on RockAuto for about $70.
Removing the distributor is pretty easy. But I'm forgetting the difficulty on replacing this particular part; I think you can extract it by unscrewing three or four phillips head screws.
Or...replace entire distributor? But that seems overkill unless you have some extras readily available.
