Sounds like you have to get in the bravery gear, and use common sense. I have the Saab OE tool to put the seal in, as well as a shower drain rig that does the same only not as elegantly. Let me know if you need to borrow either of the install tools.
Actually, I like the idea of grabbing the seal with a sheet metal screw, there are some out there that have a drill bit incorporated in the tip, so you just drill it in and then it self taps. Get the right leverage on the sheet metal heads, and the seal should just advance out of the hole if you do it from both sides in harmony.

You will get it out as it was pushed in......what goes in, must come out. However, the population of pieces outbound might be more than the inbound.....
