Importance of 30-second warm-up/shut-down....

When I first acquired my Saab, I never really paid heed to the whole "wait 30 seconds" thing. The salesman at the used car lot even made an extra special effort to tell me to MAKE SURE I do this every time. I didn't! 30 seconds is a long time sometimes.
Well, bad things started happening at a quick rate. White smoke, blue smoke even... I know the clutch problems couldn't possibly be related to this, but still.
Now, I wait 30 secs. before putting it into gear after start-up, and after pulling the parking-brake when parking, i wait 30 seconds. All the smoking went away within a day or two.
If I miss a warm-up, or get impatient and go without waiting, usually sometime during that day's driving, I WILL SEE SMOKE!!!! Usually small amount of white smoke at idle. (Turbo seals, i know...)
I am stating the importance of this "30 second" warm-up/shutdown procedure. I believe that EVERY Saab owner (esp. Turbos) should follow procedure and do the 30 second thing. Any comments/experiences???
