Moving radio to lower slot: what's involved??

Greetings to all.
I'm considering installing gauges in upper radio slot, ditching OEM Clarion radio and EQ, and installing aftermarket radio/CD/EQ in the lower slot. Before I tear the dash apart, can anyone tell me what's involved in the rewiring project? How much of the car do I have to dismantle? Do I have to move the upper wiring harness assembly down to the lower slot; is the Clarion EQ plug simply left dangling; etc. Don't worry about being too simplistic; I'll take all the help I can get.
Thanks in advance for the info, and for past help. Cheers!
