You probably don't have to tear anything apart... If you pull off the driver's side speaker, you should have little trouble fishing the radio wiring down to the lower slot. The two harnesses are self-contained, and run up the firewall along with the antenna. Just unclip the harnesses from the guides, and pull them down.
Once they're out of the dash area, you may wish to remove the lower console, but usually you can slip the harnesses in the back of the the fiberboard box and pull them through the front of the console.
It usually takes me about ten minutes to do this... it isn't hard. I once did it in a Carl's Jr. drive-through. The person at the window was not happy about me taking my car apart at that time, but I wanted to install the new radio!
