Even though the stock lines are short, they do 'give.' If you don't believe it, have someone stand on the brakes while you grip the lines in your fist...you can feel them give. I first discovered this on a Kawasaki 900 Z1 motorcycle with stock manual single caliper hydraulic brakes. Switching to stainless steel significantly changes the 'feel.'
On a car with ABS, the increased stiffness can lead to problems, I've heard, but I haven't known/heard of any specific problems with the 92 Saab ABS.
As for brake lines lasting 20+ years, yes they can, but I'd be checking them annually after first five years....stuff happens. Contaminants, rocks, whatever, can damage the stock rubber lines and they can go soft or get 'balloons' in them.
