Of course, I drive one, so I'm prejudiced! :)
In all seriousness, Saabs are "love 'em or leave 'em alone" cars. They are quirky, occasionally tempermental, and sadly worth less in the resale market than they are to their owners. Not all people value the same things in a car: Before buying a Saab, turn inward and ask yourself what you want from a car and what kind of driver you are.
If you want a trouble-free car that gets you where you need to go, without much maintenance or demanding much attention, Saabs probably are not the best choice. If you won't work on your own car and you don't want to go to the trouble of finding (through the local Saab club) a mechanic who knows them inside-out, you probably should not buy one. If you think the ideal car is a Honda, be warned, Saabs are not Hondas. Similarly, if you like to be isolated from the road, wrapped in a quiet cocoon, pass on the Saab.
But: if you're a DRIVER, not just a rider; if your idea of a car is not simply something to get you from point A to point B efficiently, but a performance platform to be pushed, tested and tweaked; if you speed up when you see the sign "winding mountain road ahead;" a Saab might be a good fit. If you love to feel your car respond and hear her scream in pure roadlust, then you might just understand what some of us find in our Saabs. And if you're willing to get a little greasy once in a while petting and stroking the motor, willing to do some basic maintence yourself, and willing to carry the Bentley shop manual and some basic tools in the boot, keeping her on the road doesn't have to cost a fortune.
As to the SPG specifically, the link below has some tips.

Good luck with whatever you decide.
