Amp blew, was it me?

I recently reinstalled the OEM stereo (head unit, amp & equalizer.) I also had to splice on the wiring harness for the stereo to the one in the car that was cut to put an after market stereo in. All was well for about a day until, on my way to work, a horrible buzzing then smoke from the center consol where the amp is located, yes it was fried. So was it my wiring job or did the amp just shoot craps, I would like to hear your opinions before I put another amp in. (I pulled all this stereo equipment out of a dead Saab including the harness that I spliced on.)
Thanks, Mike 86 900t 162k
