If the timing chain on a Euro-spec '90 8-valve is the same as on my old '86 US-spec 8-valve (gotta have that caveat), you shouldn't have to worry:
First, it's a double-row chain so it will carry more tension and it has that bit of redundancy built in.
Second, it has 8-less valves to work, so the tension on the chain should be significantly lower.
Third, if the pistons are the same as the US-spec 8-valve, it's a non-interference design. So, of the chain does break, you just replace the chain and drive away.
On a humorous note, a few years ago on Car Talk, there was a call from a young woman who was driving her 8-valve SAAB and heard a BANG from under the hood. The car still ran. After the BANG, she said that it had a lot rattling from the chain end of the valve cover. They guessed that the bang was one chain link breaking. Not that Click & Clack are the guys you'd want diagnosing your SAAB :-)
