Feedback on MSS exhaust Posted by IrieTom [Email] (#1032) [Profile/Gallery] (more from IrieTom) on Mon, 9 Oct 2000 10:21:10 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I finally replaced my poor venison-encrusted exhaust this weekend. As some of you will recall, I knocked my muffler halfway off after running over a deer carcass almost 2 weeks ago.
This gave me the impetus to finally call MSS and order a cat-back system from them. I placed the order on a Thursday, and the exhaust arrived on the following Monday. (This was UPS ground from Jamestown, NY to Kingston, NY) The packaging consisted of a center pipe, muffler, tailpipe, and 2 clamps all taped together with a little envelope containing 3 rubber hangers and some instructions. Everything arrived in good condition.
Since I don't have access to a lift (or any spare time to speak of) I called some local muffler shops, and the Meineke guys were willing to take a look at it. I brought it over, and they agreed to install it immediately for $40.00. An hour later, it was ready to go, but they charged me an additional $10.00 for the bolts securing the center pipe to the catalytic converter and the gasket at that connection.
For a grand total of $250.00, I'm very pleased with the exhaust. It has a nice deep purr at idle, but doesn't scream or make an obnoxious racket while accelerating. It's tough to say the exhaust freed up any extra power, but the car seems to have a smoother response.
I haven't done any significant performance mods (yet), just a k&n open-element intake, magnecor ignition wires, and silicon vacuum lines.
Unfortunately, I won't get to play with it much for a while. In 2 days, I'll be flying to Idaho and Montana on a business trip and driving another foolish SUV around for a week and a half.
Anyways, I wanted to state that I am perfectly satisfied with the quality of the exhaust parts and service from MSS. I'm sure that I would have paid much more $$$ for inferior crap if I had done my shopping at Midas (or any other chain)
