I have a 87 SPG with the OEM suspension, my brother has a 86 900s with the SAS sway bars & his car stays a lot flatter then mine does but it also takes bumps worse. When pot holes are hit with his car, you really feel it. But it was & is definantly worth those minor setbacks for the huge improvement in handling.
Getting a set of aftermarket springs will also transform the way the ar feels. I have intrax springs which are sitting ont he floor in my garage along with several other things :o(
Tire wise, I would think spending the money on a better 195-60 would be better then a 205-55 due to the narrow rim. Yokohama AVS intermediates are a old inexpensive tire which would lat about 10K miles & handle awesome. The Bridgestone RE-71's are another old hi po tire which would do the trick.
Going with a larger rim would improve handling if they have the proper tires, but that would probaby bump you up a class so using the OEM 15's might be the way to go. Also, do some tweeks to your motor. K&N filtercharger as well as a APC upgrade (doing it yourself or buying modified APC) will give you lots more power & make the car easier to drive to :o)
I hope to do somo solo II stuff next year to :o)
