Mike,
Thanks for the compliments. I'm glad that I was able to give you some insights into the engine. When I had my '86 8-valve (gees, almost 5 years ago, now), I wasn't able to get into the engine very far, but I was impressed with how exotic it was compared to my 2.2 litre Mopars. It and my buddy's '85 were smooth cars that could go forever with no problems.
I'm looking through my Haynes manual for some info on the 8-valve tensioner. It looks to my humble eye that the tensioner for that engine is completely internal to the timing chain cover.
On the post '86-1/2 16-valve engines you can measure the tensioner for that 11-mm max length, but I don't think that thre's any way to do it for the 8-valve engines. Hopefully someone will correct me if I'm wrong on this.
The electricity generator would be the alternator, and the Air Conditioning compressor would be to the right of it as you're looking out of the windshield. (A/C is one of the abbreviations for air conditioning.)
I'm sorry that I can't help more on the tensioner.
