It's all about the personality of the car, I think. :o) My 88 900S with 210,000 miles on it has plenty of it, too. I love the fact that I have taken my car on many many many trips back and forth from Maine to Vermont carting people and lots o' cargo to and from college. Not ONCE has it broken down on me. This car has taken my friends and I to Sugarloaf and Stowe countless times, and I have put 40,000 miles on it in the two years that I have owned it. Yeah, I've had to put quite a bit of money into upkeep (new radiator, shocks, master cylinder, brake job, inner driver and cv joint), but in my humble opinion, it is all worth it when I take the car out on a quite, lonely, winding country road. Just to feel connected to the car, to get the rush of cornering, shifting, accelerating, and just simply driving it. My parents always lectured me on how "driving is a priveledge", well I now consider it an honor to drive a classic 900. I also think nothing compares to the feeling of pride I get when I take a fast corner with a friend, and they comment on how well the car corners, or how good the car looks even though it has almost a quarter of a million miles on it, or their surprise at how it handles in the snow. I agree with monster; it's a love and hate relationship, but the rewards of a successful repair and the thrill of driving these cars is unbeatable. I also agree that paying for maintenance is cheaper than affording a new(er) car.
Proud owner and driver,
Jake
