These things are all true. On thing that I would like to add is that not only are automatic saabs saab's weak point, but all of their tansmissions in general. If you change the tranny oil, use something heavy, like 10-30 motor oil. I once bought a nice 85 900t (5 speed) 4door from a guy who thought he'd do me a big favor and change all of the fluids before i took delivery. Nice of him, yes, but when i drove the car back home to NY (from PA) and drove it around for a few weeks, changed the turbo it needed, the transmission started to pop out of gears. Seems he thought he'd replace the tranny fluid (motor oil) with Automatic Transmission Fluid. Bummer. If you have an automatic transmission, I'd imagine that you arte supposed to use ATF, so no 10-30 there. As far as the "belts" go, your mechanic is right, the engine is in backwards, and the belts are right in front of your knees, so expect a faint noise. However, if it sounds too loud to you, I would watch that water pump, may have a bearing go. Don't want to have a nice saab go the way of the mercedes, ya know what i mean? Other than those weaknesses, saabs are the best car going. You get the luxury and sporting ability of a BMW, but they go like an army tank through snow, whereas a small drift will throw you into a corn field at 55 in a Beemer. Plus, you get the economy and engineering prowess of VW! Welcome to the club! We hope your stay is long and comfortable. ~Matt
