James,
I've been down this road before so let me save you some grief.
On my 83-900T I have it wired as follows, thanks to Kevin K: red(btm) connects to the (+) coil terminal with the other wires, white(btm) connects to the heavy blue wire which goes to the ignition module, and the orange(btm) goes to the (-) coil terminal along with the smaller diameter blue wire which is the input signal for the tachometer. You shouldn't need the tach adapter, I tried one and it didn't help.
Oh...one more thing while I remember, tee off of the vacuum line that goes to the white vacuum canister. Initially I used the line that goes to the vacuum advance and was very disappointed with the performance. Also note that when you bend the limit knob on stock vacuum advance you should be careful and make sure that the space between the actuator rod and the limit is < the thickness of a piece of paper( 0.005")
The great thing about the BTM is that you can control the retard while you drive. Around town I have it set to 0 but when I start heading up a long canyon I set it to 0.5-0.75 which allows for a higher boost level before the APC spanks it down. That's one advantage above the AID system
-Todd
PS should this go in some FAQ
