Bad AIC - pulsing/varying idle - any connection?

My SAAB is a 900i featuring one of the old B engines, injection and 8 valves, catalytic converter and oxygen-sensor (lambda-sonde).
Apart from these features it also display an uneven/varying/pulsing idle, although not for the initial 90 seconds starting the engine cold (- and leaving it running idle).
I previously dicussed the problem on this BB, and I have since then undertaken the recommended fixes, such as cleaning the throttle valve, cleaning injectors, also the 5th, checking for vacuum-leaks etc....This did trim the engine without eliminating the pulsing idle feature.
Today I tried disconnecting the lead for the AIC valve before starting the engine cold; this made absolutely no difference whatsoever, and the idle could go on for ever with AIC lead disconnected (- while still pulsing). However, as soon as I disconnected the air-hose from the AIC valve, the engine stalled and could not be restarted until the hose was back on.
HERE are MY Q.s: Does this test show my AIC is not active (- that it is faulty), since it makes no difference whether there is an electric control...? Could this cause a variable idle function ?? If so, what can I do to bring the lead connection back to life ???
AND Here's ONE MORE on this issue: What is "ECU" (- this part is referred to repeatedly on previous messages on the AIC issue...!) ??
