Both my dad & I have used 9000's for towing purposes, mainly moving F500 racecars around on 5x10 open trailers, up to 700mi one way. He has a 93 CSE, and I think he has a Draw Tite or Dalan hitch on it. I have a 92 S with a factory Saab hitch, and use an external adapter for the wiring. I've been in both cars with trailer attached plus tools, coolers etc. when moving at "don't try this at home" speeds- never thought to look under the hood of the CSE after stopping though-it never really seemed to notice that there was a trailer in back. Total weight with my steel trailer was probably ~1300lb, probably right around 1000 for dad's very cool aluminum trailer.
As for advice- get 12 or 13" wheels for the trailer. Be sure to leave more assured clear distance in front in traffic, and expect lots of wheelspin pulling out into traffic quickly (especially in the rain)-more total weight plus extra weight transfer from the trailer. I always made sure to be spinning the engine pretty well to keep lots of oil pressure- never below 2000rpm. I heard that from someone in the past.
For short distances with a small trailer I wouldn't really worry at all- just drop down a gear going up the big hill and don't keep the boost gauge pegged. FWIW there's another New England cone chaser who's also a Saab indy who pulled a Formula Vee on a much bigger open trailer with a 900T.
