there seems to be some confusion here.

Marc: you have a Bypass valve already (BPV), it is of the recirculating type. When the throttle closes air is redirected into the intake, before the turbo. THe AMM was designed for this situation (metering this air), and when one installs a BOV or atmospheric Blow off valve, a rich condition incurrs. I tried one of these for fun....the sound was cool, but when lifting off the throttle, the car would want to stall. There are hybrid units available, where you can have the full function of the recirculation unit, while getting a little extra sound, as some of the air is divered to atmosphere.

some of hte best turbo cars in the world use recirculation BPV (I think all of them, from the factory anyway), so don't be fooled by the notion that atmospheric BOV are a performance item. YOu will not get higher boost, and very likely a new or higher quality recirculation BPV (such as Forge/Stratmosphere/Hyperboost) will provide the BEST in terms of stable boost and spool-up. Plug and play in our saabs.

However, on Trionic equipped cars, atmospheric BOV do ideed work.

Sam: Bypass valves were fitted on all 16V turbo saabs from 1984 on. With 10psi boost (12psi in Europe without cat converters), the turbos would be lunch fairly quickly without them ;-)
