I did read your post, I was just summarising everything I figured out into one place, and so many people told me so many different things... for example the auto wrecker still thinks 1994-1998 are all the same for the whole cluster because, and I quote, "the computer says so".
I disagree about the fuel gauge. I re-wired that thing every way possible and the closest I could get it to read is 1/4 of a tank when the tank is 3/4 full. The meter itself has four posts screwed to the board, and three of them have electrical connections. The '94 version has the meter rotated 90 degress in relation to the '97 version. This means that if you use the '97 board on it, only two of the three terminals will be connected to anything. If you leave the '94 gauge and board in tact, and re-wire the connector in the car, the fuel gauge pegs the needle. The signal coming from the EDU is not the same. The temperature gauge actually was a lot closer, but it wasn't quite correct either. Looking at what is on that circuit board, three resistors, I do not believe it has any effect on the two speed fan. There's nothing on that board to be sending a signal back, and the only difference between the two boards is that one has a diode in place of one of the resistors, and the traces are routed differently.
Anyway, I did remove the air duct for the left dash vent, so I'll have a look around there. Thanks for your help.
