fluid leak?

If brake fluid is leaking out the bell-housing, or if there's a "squish" sound from the transmission when a friend pumps the pedal you've got a failed clutch slave cylinder. Only recourse is to pull the transmission and replace everything in sight (clutch slave, clutch disc, pressure plate, rear main seal, etc).

If you lose actuation pressure and there's no fluid leak you've probably got a problem in the master cylinder. These are rebuildable for less that $20.
