Before I say anything about my problem let me just say I do NOT want to start the oil wars back up, I just simply need advise and knowledge on what's going on with my 9000. It's a '95 9k Aero 5spd. The problem is engine ticking on cold starts. I posted on this a while ago and felt the type of oil was my culprit, now I'm not so sure. ANY advice is GREATLY appreciated. I just changed my oil 2 days ago and put in M1 5w-30. Before changing the oil, I had M1 5w-30. The previous oil cycle seemed to be fine, I had some ticking at startup but would go away within a few minutes. The ticking had improved with switching to 5w-30 from 10w-30, life was good. Now it (since changing the oil 2 days ago) ticks for about 10 mins before going away. The ticking will fade for a second then come right back and do this off and on for about 10 mins maybe slightly less. The engine warm up time has not changed, simply the amount of time it takes to stop ticking and quiet down. I spent a good hour and a half this morning reading old posts on oil types/weights trying to find an answer to my problem and I feel my level of knowledge on the subject has degraded because of it. I'm going crazy trying to figure this out, I'm almost ready to try Marvel Mystery oil to see if that will help. Heck, maybe the oil type has nothing to do with the ticking at this point. Maybe it's just time to replace some parts,(lifters?) I really don't know. I live in southern Vermont. It has been anywhere from 42 deg F in the mornings to 75-80 deg F during the day. Temperature doesn't seem to affect it anymore, it still takes just as long in the afternoon to stop ticking as in the morning. I've got the same M1 5w-30 running in the '94 Aero and it may tick for a few seconds on startup but goes away very quickly and isn't nearly as loud as the tick in my '95. I'm very confused and am not sure what to do. If you have any ideas by all means share. Thank you very much in advance!
