test the oil pressure to see if it's within specs. I was going to suggest M1 10W-40 or better yet, M1 10W-40 High Mileage (which does meet the specs) before but decided not to. Also, it'd take a while before the new oil is in the lifters. It probably sounds worse because the thicker oil probably did not get hot enough to get inside the lifters yet (I don't know hor far you drove the car). It takes a long time for oil to warm up. As far as oil specs, our oil specs are almost obsolete and the newer spec that replaced the old specs are short on the additives needed for our (older) cars. That's why I mentiond the High Mileage oil. High Mileage usually means the specs are the same as the now obsolete specs and include the good additives needed for our cars. Anyway, I envy you... you have access to some really good oil through your father. HTH
