I have an earlier model 1994, and the amp powers the rear speakers, The front speakers are powered by a small amp in the back of the cage that the radio slides into. I bought a CD player on Eb-ay and it was from a 1991. It hooked right up. I agree with you about the stock radio. It sounds pretty darn good and looks just right in the dash. I did finally have to replace my rear speakers, with was a bit tricky. Ask me if you ever have to do this and I can offer a couple of time savers.
