We must be cautious...

They sound like an interesting alternative, probably several steps up from the $150 Chinese clones we're used to seeing. But given that the consequences that stem from a bad DIC can range from sudden failure to destructive preignition and engine damage I'd be careful.

It's interesting to compare the descriptions of the red and black versions of these DICs. The red ones that we use on the 9000 are described as having "original Saab SEM capacitors" and that's about it. The description for the black DICs used on later Saabs lists European-made coils, extensive testing done on each unit, and zero "real world" failure rate. All of that goodness is missing in the description for the red DIC.

I'd feel more comfortable if there were some independent tests and reviews available -- don't think I'd want to be an early guinea pig for these. (Especially with good used original DICs commonly available for $100 or less.)
