Running lean?

Pulled the plugs in my '96 to re-gap them since it's been 10,000 miles. The insulator was mostly white, not the light brown I like to see. The base of the plug (where the threads end), is black and the ground electrode is light brown, so I'm thinking the engine is running a bit lean. (the plugs in my wife's 9-5 look normal--light brown/tan on the insulator. The 9K used to look like that)

This car has a JZW Stage 1 tune, but the previous plugs were like this before that ECU went in last year. So this has been going on for some time.

Was thinking a vacuum leak might cause this but the hoses all seem OK and the car starts, idles and runs fine at all speeds, 27 mpg at 75-85 mph. And yes, I'm running the proper NGK plugs.

I'm thinking it's nothing to worry about, but curious--what do other people see with their plugs?
