Bought 02 Linear with 140k and knocking engine in a spring of 2011.
Installed used Aero engine with 120K myself ($500 investment).
Since then, in a course of a year, I replaced:
fuel pump (died), CPS (pre-emtive), PCV 6, cleaned oil pan, brake booster, ball joints, tie rod ends, suspension links, front subframe bushings, front and rear shocks, rear control arm bushings. Did all the work by myself. I wish I did subframe bushings when engine was out, but it was not all that bad, just time consuming.
Car runs great, handles very well now, good highway cruser, pretty solid now. Will jump in it and drive anywhere. Drove it spiritedly this weekend- Sport Mode transforms the car and it's a nice break from my 5-speed 98 CSE.
Average cost of ownership in 2 years (without the engine)-$48 a month.
As for 2000 model- look for oil change history.I would not go lower than 2002 (if oil change history is known). 2004-2005- are better years with all sludge issues resolved.
