Early models of the 9000 had a separate catalytic converter that was mounted to the two hooks in the tunnel slightly behind the engine (take a look, they are probably unused on your car). Later models, including my 1994, have a one-piece downpipe and catalytic converter combination, with the catalytic converter immediately below the engine - not exactly a great idea for oil temperature, but probably done so that it heats up faster. I am not sure what year this change occurred.
A 1997 car would use the one-piece version. When replacing, make sure that the metal bracket that holds the rear of the cat assembly to the engine is still intact and used, as they can disintegrate due to rust - this piece is available separately.
