There was insufficient 'free play' in brake pedal to booster to master cylinder.
Before I transplanted this booster/master combo, I separated them first. I removed all the abs gear, including the thin (10-12 gauge?)piece of sheetmetal sandwiched in between booster and master, which the abs gear mounts to. This is what had provided the correct spacing. To get proper spacing back, I removed the two nylock nuts holding master to booster, I added a flat washer on each of the two booster mounting studs on behind master, and voila! No apparent problems on a 45 min drive.
The brake pedal has a bit more travel before braking begins now, but its okay. If I wanted to lessen the free play and get braking higher up on
pedal travel, one could easily swap out the washers with ones a bit
thinner.
FYI: I am using a splitter I bought on ebay to split primary cylinder on master to provide pressure to both front calipers. I reconnected the single line for the rear brakes to the secondary cylinder on master, and it is still divided left and right back on the original splitter underneath the trunk floor.
